According to reports, Al Hilal, the reigning Saudi Pro League champions, have lined up Mohamed Salah as the ideal substitute for Neymar, who might be reunited with his former Barcelona comrades at Inter Miami.
Neymar’s exorbitant transfer to Saudi Arabia has clearly not paid off. After departing Paris Saint-Germain for a reported €90 million (£78 million) in 2023, the Brazilian has only played seven competitive games. Neymar’s contract expires in the summer, with the option for a year extension, and Al Hilal are believed to be arranging his exit.
According to the Spanish daily AS, Liverpool’s Salah is the ideal star to replace the departing Brazilian.
Salah, like Neymar, is expected to become a free agent in July and can already begin negotiating a free transfer. The 32-year-old is enjoying the best form of his Premier League career, but has repeatedly stressed that this is his “last year” at Liverpool based on the current state of contract negotiations.

While a slew of European clubs, including PSG and Barcelona, have been linked with Salah, the Saudi Pro League has long expressed an interest in signing the Egyptian star.
Hafez Al Medlej, the former chairman of the league’s marketing and financial organization and a significant figure in the Asian Football Confederation, has previously stated that: “We must begin working on the signing of Mohamed Salah because he is overwhelmingly popular in the Arab world and Europe.” Fans of Al Hilal’s rivals, Al Ittihad, have been seen wearing Salah masks during matches.
While Salah’s destiny next season – which might still be Liverpool – is undecided, Neymar has been extensively linked with a move to Major League Soccer team Inter Miami.
