Monaco want to draw Leicester City in the Champions League quarter-final so they can “avenge” Claudio Ranieri’s sacking, Andrea Raggi has stated.
The Ligue 1 leaders are one of the final eight teams left in the competition after knocking out Manchester City on the away goals rule – the tie finished 6-6 on aggregate – and will take their place alongside the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in today’s draw.
As a result there is bound to be at least one mouth-watering tie between two of European football’s biggest clubs but Raggi is hoping to avoid such teams and wants to be paired with the Foxes because of the French sides ties with Ranieri.
“I want to face Leicester in the quarter-finals,” Raggi told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, as reported by Football Italia.
“It would be a fun challenge, but I also want to avenge Ranieri, who yesterday wrote me a lovely message of congratulations.”
Ranieri spent two seasons as Monaco boss and was in the stands at the Stade Louis II last night in one of his first public appearances since being removed as City manager – just 24 hours after the first-leg defeat away at Sevilla.
