Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has been called up to the Spain squad and will replace Jordi Alba, who has left the camp with injury and returns to Barcelona.
The La Liga defender picked up the injury in the draw with Italy on Thursday night, after he appeared to sustain the problem in the first half.
After receiving medical treatment before walking off the pitch in the 22nd minute, Alba has now left the camp and Arsenal’s Monreal will be coming in.
The 30-year-old former Malaga defender has won 16 caps for Spain since making his debut in 2009, but has been used sparingly with Alba comfortably the No.1 left-back for the national team.
However, his thigh injury has presented Arsenal’s Monreal with a big opportunity ahead of the game with Group G leaders Albania in a few days.
The Gunners full-back, who has not played for the national team since 2013, is one of the most underrated defenders in the Premier League and holds a good rapport with Arsenal fans.
