French side Montpellier are the latest club to be linked with Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor, as the former Crystal Palace forward continues his search to find a new employer.
The 32-year-old has been a free agent since the summer and is desperately looking to find a new club to resurrect his flagging career.
French media outlet L’Equipe suggest that Montpellier could be his next destination, with the club understood to be considering making an offer to Adebayor, as they look to find a replacement for main striker Casimir Ninga, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament back in October.
The Herault club are currently sat in 11th place in the French league but will be wary of being sucked into a relegation fight, especially as they look set to be without goal-machine Ninga for much of the season.
Adebayor began his professional career in France where he played for both Metz and Monaco, before joining Arsenal in January 2006.
The Togo international enjoyed three relatively successful years at the Emirates before making a somewhat controversial move to Manchester City in 2009. Since then, the striker has played for a further three club’s including Real Madrid (on loan) and Tottenham.
But having been released by Crystal Palace last summer, Adebayor has been unable to find a new club and has admitted that he may not be available to represent Togo in the African Cup of Nations which starts in just over two weeks time.
Whilst the player’s wage demands are likely to cause difficulties for Montpellier, the club’s manager Frédéric Hantz, appears keen to reach an agreement with Adebayor.
