Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has admitted he was willing to stay at his previous club Juventus for many more years.
The La Liga side activated the 24-year-old’s buy-back clause this summer bringing the Spain international back to the Bernabeu after just two seasons in Turin with the Serie A champions.
Morata won the Serie A title in both his seasons in Italy as well as lifting the two Coppa Italia crowns.
The Spaniard has grown frustrated with the chances he has been afforded by Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid this season. Despite scoring six goals in 14 games for Los Blancos, the striker has only completed the full 90 minutes twice in La Liga, with eight of his league appearances coming from the bench.
“I am not Italian, but I gave everything for the Bianconero shirt and I was willing to stay there many years,” Morata told Corriere dello Sport (via Goal).
“Juventus knew that. The only problem was that Madrid had been my dream since when I was little. Without the buy-back option, you would have had to drive me to get me away from Turin!
“I miss the Italian group from the dressing room – [Leonardo] Bonucci, [Andrea] Barzagli, [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Claudio] Marchisio, [Gianluigi] Buffon, they were key in my adaptation to Juventus and Turin.
“If I had come into a bad dressing room at Juventus, I wouldn’t have done so well.
Alvaro Morata boasts a shot accuracy of 65%, which betters his more established teammates Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
The 24-year-old also has a chance conversion rate of 25%, which is impressive compared to Ronaldo’s 18.7% hit rate.
