Arsenal and Liverpool are on alert after Juventus striker Alvaro Morata said there is a “real possibility” of him returning to Real Madrid in the summer.
Madrid reportedly have a £23.7 million buy-back option on the 23-year-old after selling him to the Italian champions in July 2014.
The possibility of a move back to his former club has peaked the interest of Arsenal and Liverpool because the Spanish giants may decide once again to sell Morata to the highest bidder.
“Returning to Madrid is a real possibility because there’s a contract, it was all already written,” he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.
“I just want all of this to be resolved.”
Juventus admitted they had no desire to sell the forward, but Real’s forward thinking two years ago may mean they will be forced to part with him anyway.
Morata has impressed in the Champions League this season for Juve and is sure to have many admirers across Europe, making him in high demand.
He has scored six goals in 28 Serie A appearances this season but starred in Juventus’ enthralling Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, helping them race into a 2-0 lead, which they eventually surrendered.
Both Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp may fancy a forward with Morata’s attributes to bolster their attacks for next season.
Arsenal have at times been frustrated with the lack of clinical finishing from Olivier Giroud, while Klopp may not see the future of his developing Liverpool side with Christian Benteke up front.
With the Reds likely to miss out on Champions League football for next season and Arsenal once again stuttering, it may prove a tough sell.
The two Premier League clubs may also face strong competition from the likes of Bayern, who saw first hand his capabilities and have Carlo Ancelotti arriving to take over as manager.
Ancelotti worked with Morata when he was manager of Los Blancos and his influence and Bayern’s stature could make the Spaniard more keen on a move to Bavaria.
