Morgan revels in Christchurch victory

Skipper Eoin Morgan has revealed his delight after England secured a seven-wicket T20 win over New Zealand on Friday. The Kiwis set the tourists a target of 154 in Christchurch, with Ross Taylor top-scoring for New Zealand with 44. England looked composed in their run chase, with James Vince the star of the show as he notched up 59 runs from 38 deliveries to put the visitors in control of the first match of the series. Vince was dismissed by a Martin Guptill catch from the bowling of Mitchell Santner but Morgan (34 not out) and Sam Billings, who finished unbeaten on 14, managed to get England over the line in 18.3 overs. Morgan was pleased with the result and felt Vince was a standout performer, as England now look ahead to the second match of the five-game series in Wellington on Sunday. “We’re very proud of the way we played today. The game was won and lost in the first innings,” he told Test Match Special. “James Vince really was exceptional. He’s very easy on the eye when he plays well, but on a wicket that doesn’t necessarily allow the shots that he played today to be played, it just shows how classy a player he is.”
