Mount sets sights on Chelsea silverware

Mason Mount says Chelsea have shown good improvement over the past few weeks and he is adamant trophies can be won if the team continue to progress. Mount has been a key figure in Chelsea’s first-team this season and his impressive displays have helped the Blues climb to fourth in the Premier League while he has also received international recognition, earning four senior caps.
The 20-year-old has been an ever-present in the league this term, scoring four goals and registering one assist, while he has started all three Champions League fixtures to date.
Mount has made a sharp rise at Stamford Bridge this term, having been handed a chance to shine by manager Frank Lampard, who worked with the midfielder at Championship outfit Derby County last season.
The new manager has also handed opportunities to other players in the youth system, with Tammy Abraham, who is just one behind Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy in the Golden Boot race, and Fikayo Tomori heavily involved.
Add in Callum Hudson-Odoi, who burst onto the scene last season before picking up an Achilles tendon injury in April, and there is a strong contingent of English players in the Chelsea team.
Chelsea are currently eight points behind table-toppers Liverpool in the race for Premier League glory, while the Blues are top of Champions League Group G heading into Tuesday’s contest at home to Ajax.
Although Lampard is trying to stay calm about the chances of adding trophies to the cabinet, Mount is adamant there is every chance of silverware this term if the players continue to work hard and develop. “We want to win trophies and we want to be top of the league,” he was quoted as saying by the Independent. “That’s our next goal, to win a major trophy. We just need to keep getting better and better, which is what we’ve shown over the last couple of weeks.”
Chelsea return to league action on Saturday when they welcome Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge.
