Mason Mount has acknowledged that leaving Chelsea to join Manchester United was difficult. He didn’t hold back, though, in his joy at joining Erik ten Hag’s side.
On Tuesday night, Mount bid Chelsea fans farewell in a video message shared on Instagram. However, Mount received some backlash before his £60 million exit was officially announced.
The 24-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the United with an additional year option. Mount joined the Blues when he was six years old and made 279 appearances for them.
What Did Mount Say About Chelsea And His Move To Man United?
The Cobham academy product expressed delight about Manchester United’s desire to win major trophies. And expressed hope that his previous success with Chelsea can help his new team.
As reported by Football London, Mount said: “It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career.
“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.
“Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.
After the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over the ownership of Chelsea last year, Mount and the club were unable to agree on a new contract. Which led to the sale. Although Manchester United football director John Murtough acknowledged that the midfielder was a talent the team had long liked.
