Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho aimed a series of jibes at his Premier League rivals during his first official press conference on Tuesday.
The 53-year-old was announced as Louis van Gaal’s successor last month, but had since been on holiday in the Maldives with his family.
Mourinho arrived back in England at the end of last week and then took to Instagram on Sunday with a video of him getting off the train in Manchester ahead of pre-season training.
And he was finally unveiled at a press conference today, where he aimed several jibes at the likes of Pep Guardiola, Arsene Wenger and former Manchester United boss, Van Gaal.
When asked about his record, Mourinho not so subtly mocked Arsenal manager Wenger and his Premier League success record, insisting he did not have to prove himself in England.
Mourinho said: “There are some managers that the last time they won a title was 10 years ago. I won a title a year ago.”
The new Manchester United boss also commented on ‘philosophies’, a word Van Gaal became renowned with during his time in the North West.
“I was never very good at hiding behind words or hiding behind philosophies,” he added.
The former Porto boss also had a word to say about former Barcelona rival Guardiola, saying: “To speak about one manager, one club and I don’t like the word, but one enemy, is not right.
“One thing is that you are in a competition like I was in Spain when it is a two horse race. In Italy it was three teams. But in the Premier League it doesn’t make sense at all.
“If you focus on one team or one opponent then the other ones will be laughing so I won’t be a part of it. I am Manchester United manager with respect for all the other clubs in the country.”
The Portuguese tactician may just be getting things rolling today, but he has already been active in the transfer market after signing Villarreal defender Eric Bailly and free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to join the Red Devils after the German giants themselves confirmed the switch over the weekend.
Mourinho’s men will compete in the International Champions Cup in China for their pre-season tour this summer, facing Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22nd.
The Red Devils then face rivals Manchester City in Beijing on July 25th as Mourinho goes head to head with old rival Pep Guardiola, before they then travel to Sweden to face Turkish giants Galatasaray.
