Jose Mourinho has insisted that Wayne Rooney will definitely be involved for Manchester United in Sunday’s EFL Cup final clash against Southampton.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to win the first major trophy of Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford following his appointment last summer.
Rooney has been training with the Manchester United first-team squad in recent days.
However, the England striker has not featured for the Red Devils since the goalless draw with Hull at the start of the month.
But Mourinho confirmed that Rooney is fit and will play a part for the Red Devils when they take on Southampton at Wembley in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday afternoon, Mourinho said: “He’s fine, he’s training with the team.
“He was not selected for Saint-Etienne because he was not ready to play but he was ready to have one more important training session and no doubts, he is involved in the game.”
Manchester United head into the game fresh from having booked their place in the last 16 of the Europa League, where they will take on Russian side Rostov.
