Jose Mourinho admits he prioritised Manchester United’s players and fans over shaking Antonio Conte’s hand at full-time after the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
United are out of the FA Cup following N’Golo Kante’s second-half strike on Monday evening, and the Premier League leaders will now face Tottenham in the semi-final at Wembley.
Mourinho and Conte clashed on the touchline during the first half at Stamford Bridge and needed to be separated by the fourth official Mike Jones.
After the match, the two managers did not shake hands, but Mourinho insists he would rectify that if he saw his opposite number before leaving Stamford Bridge.
‘If I see him [Conte] here, I shake [his hand],’ said the United manager.
‘I didn’t because I thought my players deserved my action immediately and our supporters also deserve thanks to them, so it was that.
‘I can promise you, if I see him there [outside the dressing room] I shake his hand, I have nothing to say to him at all, but to shake his hand, for sure, I will do that.’
