Roma manager, Jose Mourinho has slammed his players for “sluggish attitude” and singled out Houssem Aouar for more criticism after his side played a 1-1 draw against Servette in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
Roma’s first-half lead came from Romelu Lukaku, but Chris Bedia’s equalizer gave the Swiss team a share of the spoils. With 10 points out of a possible 15 in the Europa League, the outcome puts their hopes of winning Group G very much in jeopardy.
With Slavia Prague at the top of the table and I Giallorossi behind, a play-off could be necessary to advance to the competition’s round of 16.
Mourinho’s team will play Sheriff in their last group match on December 14 and have already been assured of making it to the knockout stage.
According to The Mirror, Mourinho was forced to criticize his players for their disappointing display following the draw with Servette. And in the process, the former Chelsea manager singled out Aouar.
What Did Mourinho Say About His Players’ Display?
“We had important opportunities, but the start of the second half was something that happens too often to us,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia.
Yet again we were superficial in our attitude, in our interpretation of this moment of the match. There are players who once again missed an opportunity to prove themselves, for example, Aouar.
“There are several who are on the bench and come on in Serie A with a great attitude, then in the Europa League they come on with this sluggish attitude, like they are not accustomed to being on the bench and then do not improve the game.”
