Mourinho urges Man United to give him the time to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants the club to give him plenty of time in the dugout so he can aim to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson.

Since Ferguson retired in the summer of 2013, Mourinho is the third manager to take over at Old Trafford and has yet to show many signs suggesting he could finally be the man to lead them back to glory.

David Moyes lasted less than a full season as he led United to a seventh- placed finish while Louis van Gaal showed early promise with a top-four finish, only drop out of Europe quickly and finish fifth the second season.

After breaking the world transfer record in the summer, it is clear that United are supporting Mourinho, but he’s claimed that he wants more than the three years he signed on for.

“If you ask me would I like to stay for more time than these three years then, yes,” Mourinho said, via the Daily Mail. “I’m in the club that I want to be.

“I’d love it but I have to deserve that. If one day the club thinks I deserve it I will be very happy about that. I am just at the beginning.

“The best manager in the history of the Premier League needed a few years to build such a successful period. If the best needed that time, others also need that time.”

Man United haven’t won the league title since Ferguson’s last season while Mourinho won it as recently as the 2014/15 campaign, but only lasted until December before Chelsea sacked him.

After 12 games gone this season, United sit in sixth place with one win in their last six matches.
