Jose Mourinho wants to sign injury-plagued Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard as one of his first major additions at Roma.
The Portuguese manager, who was sacked by Tottenham before the end of the season, is keen to work with the Belgian, who he coached at Chelsea between 2013-15 in his second stint at Stamford Bridge.
According to Deportes Cuatro in Spain, Mourinho is plotting an audacious swoop for the 30-year-old.
Hazard moved to Real back in 2019 for £130million but has been a huge disappointment in the Spanish capital.
He suffered initially with weight issues and has seemed cursed with injury problems.
Hazard has made 30 LaLiga appearances out of a possible 76 so far and only managed to turn out 21 times this term.
Over two years, he’s scored just five times and Real are understood to be running out of patience with him.
Some reports suggest that the club would be willing to allow him to leave for free, to allow the absence of his wage to free up some space financially.
Hazard previously spoke about how much he enjoyed working under Mourinho with Chelsea, so a move to Roma may appeal to him.
‘If they asked me now about a coach with whom I would like to work again, I would say Mourinho,’ he said in 2018.
‘I do not usually regret things, but one of the things that I do is not having been able to work with Mourinho at Chelsea anymore.’
Roma finished seventh in Serie A this season and will expect a significant improvement under Mourinho, who conquered Italy with Inter Milan between 2008-10.
