Napoli holding off Ancelotti future decision

Carlo Ancelotti’s position as Napoli boss reportedly remains safe at the moment despite a poor run of results and unrest amongst the players. The 60-year-old, who replaced Maurizio Sarri in the role at the Stadio San Paolo in summer 2018, guided Napoli to a creditable second-place finish in Serie A in his first season at the helm.
The remit this season was to try and provide a stronger challenge to reigning champions Juventus, who finished 11 points ahead of the Partenopei at the end of last term.
However, Ancelotti’s position has been questioned after a poor start for Napoli, with Saturday night’s 0-0 home draw against relegation-threatened Genoa resulting in them being jeered off the pitch by the home supporters.
Napoli have won only five of their opening 12 matches this season and sit down in seventh position, 12 points off Inter Milan in top spot while Juve could extend that gap to 13 points if they win Sunday’s late game against AC Milan.
There are also problems off the field as the club announced it will take legal action against players, attempting to dock the maximum allowable sum of 25 per cent from their salary, after they refused to stay in a training retreat following the midweek 1-1 Champions League draw against RB Salzburg.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis is reportedly travelling back from a trip to Los Angeles to sort out the issues, but reports in Italy are suggesting that Ancelotti will still be in charge at least for their Champions League trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on November 27.
