Ndidi: My Leicester City debut against Everton was a “nice surprise”

Wilfred Ndidi has labelled his Leicester City debut as a “nice surprise”, having only formally completed his transfer two days earlier.

Leicester agreed a transfer fee for Ndidi in December, with the midfielder impressing across his two years with Genk.

The deal was only signed on 5th January, though, with the Foxes facing a fixture against Everton on 7th January.

Ndidi completed the full 90 minutes in that FA Cup Third Round tie at Goodison Park, as the reigning Premier League champions progressed with a 2-1 win.

In a triumph labelled as “revenge” for a recent league loss by manager Claudio Ranieri, Ahmed Musa scored twice for Leicester after a Romelu Lukaku opener.

Following his first appearance for the Foxes, Ndidi said, as reported by the club’s official website:  “It felt good. It was a nice surprise [to make my debut].

“I just had to be ready. Every time in training, I always try to do my best.

“I’m really happy because the lads showed good fight. We showed great spirit. With this fight, I think we can do well.

“The group performance is more important than my performance. I always hope the group can perform, then look at my performance.”

The Nigeria international starred for former club Genk in the Europa League group stage this term, scoring two goals in six matches, despite his deep midfield role.
