Chelsea has experienced trouble redeveloping Stamford Bridge to a greater capacity and have been looking for a new site for years.
Chelsea are still considering their alternatives for vacating Stamford Bridge, with an eye on a potential location in Earl’s Court.
According to The Guardian, Chelsea has proposed building on what is now the Lillie Bridge depot area, a shift from existing plans for a mixed-use development including apartments, parks, and businesses.

There are no present plans to build a new stadium as part of that project, but Chelsea is apparently hoping to be allowed in if the plans are considered too expensive to proceed without it.
However, Chelsea may need to act quickly to get involved in the proposals, since the current stadium-free concept is expected to be reviewed by local councils next week.
A representative for the Earl’s Court Development Committee told the Guardian that Chelsea FC had no plans to relocate to the Earl’s Court location.
“We have a completely detailed design that will soon be registered with both local authorities, prioritizing the delivery of thousands of houses and employment, culture, and open space through a well-designed and considered master plan that has evolved over four years of participation. This will see development begin in 2026, with the first residents and occupiers moving in by 2030. This is and will be our primary focus.”
The club is thought to be still reviewing its options at Stamford Bridge, with a full rebuild perhaps on the table. If that were to happen, Chelsea would have to find a temporary home, similar to how Tottenham Hotspur plays at Wembley Stadium while they build their own.
