Newcastle United Manager, Eddie Howe stated that a late decision will be made on the fitness of Alexander Isak ahead of their clash with Manchester City.
With 25 goals in all competitions last season, the Swedish international forward—who cost the club £63 million—was Newcastle’s highest goalscorer. He signed with the club in the summer of 2022.
Howe has disclosed that he has been playing with discomfort following a fractured toe. The Magpies’ forward hasn’t been as prolific this season, scoring only once.
Despite the 25-year-old’s lack of training this week, the United manager believes the player can play despite the injury with the help of painkiller injections, if the former Real Sociedad star can handle the amount of agony.
What Did Howe Say About Isak’s Fitness Level?
According to Manchester Evening News, speaking at his pre-match press conference, Howe said: “Alex is still nursing a toe injury.
“He trained last week before the Fulham game and he had an injection in his toe to play. He felt fine but started to feel his toe in the final five or 10 minutes. After the game, it stiffened up and he wasn’t in a great place earlier in the week.
