Newcastle Beat Barcelona, Real Madrid To The Signing Of Spanish Teenage Sensation

Newcastle United have reportedly seen off competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid over the signing of Malaga youngster, Antonio Cordero.

The 18-year-old forward, who came from Malaga’s academy, has impressed this season, scoring five goals and dishing out six assists in 33 senior appearances, drawing interest from top clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have beaten Real Madrid and Barca for Cordero.

In fact, the Magpies have finalized the agreement to sign the 18-year-old prodigy, and his signing is anticipated to be announced shortly.

Though both Barca and Madrid had been following the Malaga forward intently, Cordero has now opted for the Premier League.

The fact that Cordero’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has strong connections with the Catalan giants and president Joan Laporta only serves to heighten the surprise of the move. In addition, Zahavi represents the Barca’s manager Hansi Flick, whose contract the outfit hope to extend shortly.

Newcastle have won the race for the Spanish U-19 international in spite of that relationship.

Last summer, Barcelona expressed interest but withdrew when Malaga put a price tag of €3 million.

Even though the Blaugrana offered almost €2 million to get ahead of the competition, a second attempt in the January window also fell through.
