So far, Newcastle United has struggled to make an impact during the summer transfer window.
So far this summer, the Magpies have made no major signings, with the exception of a free transfer and a deal for Odysseas Vlachodimos, which was mostly done to comply with Profit and Sustainability guidelines.

According to Luke Edwards, Newcastle are close to making a signing.
Speaking on NUFC 360, the journalist stated that Newcastle might complete a signing before the weekend, but he could not reveal the name of the player just yet.
Newcastle set to make a new signing.
Edwards provided a mysterious update on Newcastle.
“I believe they are close to making a signing. I’ve been told they’re close. I’m hoping before the weekend, but I’ve been told that something will happen before then.
“Everybody is out in Japan, I know people want a name, I have a couple of names that I have to keep to myself, I’m not 100% certain, and I don’t want to write a name that isn’t true, but trying to get anything out of Newcastle right now is difficult because everyone is trying to keep it a closely guarded secret.” I have an idea who it is, but I am not certain.”
Indeed, we can assume Malick Thiaw is the player in question here.
It was reported last week that Thiaw is the player Newcastle is closest to signing, and there has been no indication that the Magpies’ interest in the German has diminished.
It could not be long until the name of this mysterious gamer is disclosed, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it was Thiaw.
