Newcastle Open Talks With Ex-Man City Star Ahead Of Transfer Deadline

Newcastle United have reportedly opened talks to the potential signing of Burnley goalkeeper, James Trafford before the end of the summer transfer window.

The transfer window closes on Friday night, and the Magpies haven’t made many noteworthy acquisitions this summer.

Two of the six players they have added are backup goalkeepers, and Lewis Hall was signed permanently as a result of an option that came up during his loan from Chelsea the previous season.

Newcastle have been trying to recruit Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi for a few weeks now. But the Eagles have turned down their most recent offer of £65 million.

They are now believed to be trying to recruit Trafford, who was formerly on the books of Manchester City.

The 21-year-old was signed by the newly promoted Clarets after he excelled for the England U21s in their victory at the U21 European Championship last summer.

However, Trafford found it difficult to adjust to life in the Premier League during his first season. And before Vincent Kompany’s side were demoted back to the second division, the 21-year-old was benched for the final few games of the season in favor of Arijanet Muric.

Since Muric left for Ipswich, he has returned to be Burnley’s first choice and has started two of their three Championship games under Scott Parker.

According to talkSPORT as reported by Sport Bible, Newcastle are considering a second attempt at signing Trafford after failing to recruit him earlier in the summer.

Personal terms are supposedly not an issue, but in order to move forward, the Magpies will have to transfer one of their current five senior goalkeepers.
