Newcastle midfielder, Jacob Murphy claims they were the architect of their own downfall in their 3-2 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Six minutes in, Nicolas Jackson’s flick into the bottom corner put Newcastle behind. Then, in the 40th minute, Alexander Isak curled home to give Eddie Howe’s team a response.
However, Cole Palmer’s low shot past Martin Dubrvaka brought the Blues back in front. And with 15th minutes remaining, substitute Mykhailo Mudryk made it 3-1. Murphy, then scored a sublime goal in the additional time to make it 3-2.
According to Newcastle World, while reflecting on the game, Murphy said: “Very [disappointing]. We left ourselves too much to do in the end. It’s annoying because it’s an opportunity missed for us. The fans will see that, we see that.”
He said: “We weren’t good enough in our duels. Little errors. I didn’t think their goals were anything special, I think they’re all avoidable. We’ll look at them but we must do better.
“Looking throughout the game, they weren’t really hurting us all too much and their goals come from lack of winning the duels.

“It wasn’t that they played well, it was probably more our own doing. We’ll go back and fix it. We’ve got some big games now ahead to put things right.”
