Newcastle United defender, Kieran Trippier was reportedly forced off during his side’s friendly match against Tottenham Hotspur in Australia.
Trippier arrived in Australia with the Magpies and began Wednesday’s match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) against Spurs. However, the 33-year-old was replaced by Jacob Murphy after just 37 minutes.
According to Newcastle World an ice pack was strapped to his left leg as he headed down the MCG tunnel at halftime, raising concerns about an injury. After missing nine weeks due to a calf injury, Trippier has just recently returned to action.
The former Atletico Madrid star has been named in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary 33-man squad for Euro 2024 and will be joining up with England upon his return from Australia.
After playing Iceland at Wembley and Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James’ Park on Monday, June 3, Southgate’s team will travel to Germany to play Serbia in their first Euro campaign match.
Trippier, if fit, is expected to start the competition at left-back due to concerns about Luke Shaw’s fitness.
