Newcastle United are said to have started further talks with Leicester City about signing Harvey Barnes, and a £35 million deal might be concluded this week.
After completing Sandro Tonali’s £52 million move from AC Milan, the 25-year-old has emerged as one of the Magpies’ major objectives in the previous seven days.
Barnes’ situation was heightened on Tuesday afternoon when Leicester announced that he had been “rested” for their behind-closed-doors friendly defeat to Peterborough United.
According to The Times, United has moved a “significant step closer” to signing the former England international after resuming talks with Leicester in the previous 24 hours. A transfer could be agreed upon in the next days, according to reports.

Barnes, according to Newcastle World, is very interested in moving to St James’ Park and has already looked at residences in the region. Personal terms are thought to have been agreed upon as a result of this.
West Ham, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur have all expressed interest in Barnes, but Tyneside appears to be the player’s favorite destination given the thrilling prospect of playing in the Champions League.
The Magpies approached Barnes around a year ago but were unable to match his £50 million valuation. The figure has declined since Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League.
Barnes was the Foxes’ highest scorer last season, with 13 goals. The former West Brom loanee has 35 Premier League goals and 25 assists in 146 Premier League appearances.
Leicester City will play Northampton Town on Saturday before flying to Thailand for pre-season, while Newcastle City will be in the United States for the Premier League Summer Series.
