Newcastle United have completed the signing of defender Harrison Ashby from West Ham United for an undisclosed amount.
The 21-year-old has signed a long-term contract at St James’ Park, becoming the Magpies’ third signing of the January transfer window after Anthony Gordon and Garang Kuol.
“I could not happier,” Ashby said to Newcastle’s official website upon his arrival. I can’t get the smile off my face and it’s a proud day for me and my family.
“I’m buzzing to come to the game tonight, to meet the fans and to get a taste of the atmosphere. I wouldn’t be here today without West Ham, so I thank all the coaches that I had from growing up to now, but I’m delighted to be here.”

Ashby, who was born in Milton Keynes, is a product of West Ham’s academy system and has made seven senior appearances for the Hammers.
Eddie Howe has been looking for some additional competition at right-back this month and is excited to work with Ashby.
“Harrison is a very talented young player with a lot of potential, so we are delighted to sign him,” said head coach Eddie Howe.
“He has very good attributes so we are looking forward to working with him in this exciting new chapter of his career.”

Ashby departs West Ham after spending three years in East London, where he made a total of seven first-team appearances throughout all competitions.
The Scotland Under-21 international will now be part of a Newcastle squad that is vying for a spot in the Champions League. Howe’s team is currently third in the Premier League standings, 21 points and 13 spots ahead of West Ham.
