Newcastle United are reported to be interested in signing Barcelona winger Ferran Torres this summer.
The Magpies have just finished fourth in the Premier League rankings, sealing their return to the Champions League after a two-decade absence.
While Eddie Howe’s side has performed admirably in accomplishing that goal, significant strengthening is required to cope with the rigors of extra football and compete at the highest level.
Newcastle have already been connected with a number of potential playmakers, including Leicester City’s James Maddison and RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai.
However, the North East club might expect competition from other clubs, forcing them to look into other options in the coming weeks.
Newcastle are considering making a bid for Torres, who was previously with Manchester City, according to the Daily Mail.
Torres scored 16 goals and four assists in 43 appearances during his brief stint in English football, and it was only the player pressing for a move to Barcelona that saw his time at the Etihad Stadium end sooner than expected.
However, the Spain international has underperformed at Camp Nou, scoring only seven goals and assisting three times in 32 La Liga appearances.

Although the 23-year-old appears content in his homeland, Barcelona must find quick fixes to ease Lionel Messi’s return while also complying with La Liga standards.
Barcelona are reportedly required to earn an additional £160m in cuts and sales in order to meet La Liga criteria and before making any further signings.
As recently as Monday, it was reported that a £26m deal for Ruben Neves had been agreed with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the Premier League club needing to improve their own FFP position in as little time as possible.
