Barcelona star Neymar has revealed the one Real Madrid star he would bring to the Nou Camp if he had the chance – and it is not who you might think.
Given the opportunity to cherry pick a player from his team’s great rivals, the Brazil forward revealed he would not pick Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
Instead, he would choose international team mate Marcelo, Real’s buccaneering, big haired left back.
When posed the question in an interview with CNN, Neymar said: ‘I would pick Marcelo, because he is my friend.’
When the interviewer prods him, suggesting he might like to pick Ronaldo, Neymar is steadfast, replying: ‘No, I’d pick Marcelo’.
Perhaps Neymar is worried any member of Real’s BBC – (Gareth) Bale, (Karim) Benzema and Cristiano – would upset the balance of Barcelona’s MSN – (Lionel) Messi, (Luis) Suarez and Neymar. Or maybe he is worried the 31-year-old would take his place in Luis Enrique’s team.
MSN have proved almost irresistible to the rest of Europe so far, with 41 goals between them, but Neymar refused to big himself or his team mates up too much.
He said: ‘I wouldn’t say we’re the best trio in world football, because I don’t like to say I’m better than anybody else.
‘Our aim is to always win, every day, every game, every competition. We’re making history and I hope we will continue to do so for many years to come.’
He also said he admires Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema, who have fired Real to the top of La Liga, six points clear of their second-placed rivals.
He said: ‘They are star footballers who are also making football history. They are respected.
‘So it’s a good battle, a healthy battle that we have in the Clasico.’
