Neymar set to sign new 5-Year deal with massive £174m release clause

Reports from Spain claim that Barcelona star Neymar could be set to sign a new contract sooner rather than later, as the Catalan giants look to fend off interest from a number of clubs around Europe.

Real Madrid are the latest to be linked with a move for the Brazilian, with hints that Barcelona’s biggest rivals could trigger his heavily publicised release clause of £153m this summer in an audacious move which would shatter the world transfer record and stomp all over the remains until only dust remained.

However, Mundo Deportivo claim that the club are working on a new deal for the 24-year-old which would see that figure rise yet higher to £174m – something they say is not a ‘trivial’ after Manchester United made it clear that they would be willing to meet the £153m clause.

Neymar signed a five-year deal when he arrived at the club from Santos almost three years ago, but that deal has yet to be extended, leaving Barcelona sweating a little as the player who they’re believe to see as the club’s future enters the final two years of his current deal.

Fortunately for the Barca chiefs though, talks are said to be progressing well – with both sides optimistic that the Brazilian star will sign a new five-year deal through 2021 before the end of the summer, putting a number of worries to bed.

Much has been made of his current base salary of just £77,000-a-week, but that is supplemented by a set of performance bonuses which look set to net him almost an extra £3m this season alone.
