Neymar Suffers Another Brazil World Cup Blow

Neymar has been dealt a fresh blow after it was revealed that he is now suffering from illness as well as ankle ligament damage.

The Brazil star missed the Selecao’s 1-0 World Cup win over Switzerland on Monday after suffering an ankle injury in the team’s previous match against Serbia last week.

Neymar has lateral ligament injury to his right ankle as well as a small bone edema, as confirmed by Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar. The Paris Saint-Germain star is a major doubt for Friday’s match against Cameroon in Group G.

According to the Daily Mirror, Neymar was unable to watch his teammates win all three points against Switzerland at Stadium 974 because he informed the team doctor that he was feeling unwell and had a headache.

The 122-cap international was forced to watch the five-time world champions from his hotel room while wearing a compression boot to protect his injured ankle.

Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior revealed that teammate Neymar is suffering from flu-like symptoms and that he hopes the PSG attacker recovers quickly.

“Neymar stayed at the hotel with a fever,” the 22-year-old said to reporters. “We are all rooting for him to recover quickly from illness and his injury.”

Neymar has battled with injuries during his World Cup career. He previously missed the 2014 semifinal due to a back problem, and he was unable to fully participate for Brazil in 2018 due to a foot injury.

Should Neymar miss the Cameroon game, he will be trying to get back in time for their last-16 match against one of Portugal, Uruguay, Ghana, or South Korea from Group H.
