Christopher Nkunku has reportedly signed a pre-contractual agreement with Chelsea ahead of a potential transfer in 2023.
The RB Leipzig man was extensively linked with a slew of clubs during the early weeks of the summer window, including the Blues, who were looking for new attacking players.
Manchester United and Real Madrid were also thought to be keeping an eye on the situation before the France international extended his contract with his present club.
Will Nkunku Move To Chelsea?
However, late last week, reports surfaced that the 24-year-old had already completed a “secret medical” with Chelsea in preparation for a possible move to Stamford Bridge.
The Athletic reports that the West Londoners have already indicated their willingness to pay Nkunku’s new release clause of €60m (£52.7m).
According to the report, Chelsea insisted on being proactive in the race to recruit Nkunku, who would have likely gotten more interest for the rest of the 2022-23 season.
Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay €60m despite Nkunku’s release clause not taking effect until the conclusion of the season.
Although a transfer is not certain, it looks like Nkunku intends to move to Stamford Bridge before the 2023-24 season.

While the versatile attacker has always been on the radar of Europe’s biggest teams, he elevated his profile last season with 35 goals and 20 assists across all competitions.
Such form is yet to be matched this season, but Nkunku has provided six goals in 10 Bundesliga and Champions League outings.
Prior to his double against struggling Bochum at the weekend, the former PSG player had not scored for club or country since August 27.
Chelsea expects to part ways with at least one creative player in the next transfer windows, with Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Callum Hudson-Odoi all having contracts that expire in less than two years.
While the latter is on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, the former have spent the majority of their time on the bench since early August.
