Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta has insisted that it would be ‘normal’ for the world’s top players to be interested in a move to the club amid recent links to Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
According to Squawka, the 27-year-old Chile international is stalling on signing a new contract with the Gunners after becoming disillusioned by their disappointing Premier League campaign.
Juventus, who wrapped up a fourth successive Serie A title this season, are rumoured to be one of three clubs – the others being Manchester City and Bayern Munich – who are monitoring Sanchez’s situation with interest.
And while Marotta refused to confirm the Old Lady’s interest, he did admit that Sanchez is a good player.
“It’s nice to read that so many players would like Juventus. Reality tells us that this team is now where it has historically been considered, so it’s normal that most top players would find the thought of coming to us appealing,” he told Gianluca Di Marzio.
“As for Sanchez, he’s definitely a good player.”
Sanchez has become one of Arsenal’s best players since moving to the Emirates from Barcelona in 2014 but he is yet to agree on a new deal with the club despite having only two years left to run.
Arsenal have privately told Sanchez that there is no chance he will be allowed to leave this summer, but should Juve or another major club step up their interest in him, it will be intriguing to see whether Arsenal can hang onto him.
Sanchez is Arsenal’s joint highest goalscorer in the Premier League with 13 strikes, despite missing eight matches, while he has also created 58 chances and completed a club-high 95 take on attempts.
Consequently, Arsene Wenger will be loathe to lose him this summer and it would be unsurprising to see the Gunners step up their efforts to tie him to a new longer-term deal.
