Norwich City 0-2 Watford

Watford secured their first win of the Premier League season as they overcome fellow strugglers Norwich City 2-0 at Carrow Road on Friday night. Watford, who started the game rock-bottom of the standings on five points, made the perfect start when Spanish forward Gerard Deulofeu picked up a loose ball from Emiliano Buendia before driving into the penalty and firing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
Roberto Pereyra was forced off for the visitors after picking up what looked to be a hamstring issue on the 31st minute, bringing on Andre Gray as his replacement, and that change almost worked wonders for the Hornets when the striker was narrowly denied a goal after a great block in the area by Ben Godfrey.
Although enjoying good amounts of possession, Norwich struggled to create any clear-cut chances and they came closest to scoring in the dying seconds of the first half, when Buendia blazed over from around 12 yards out after Teemu Pukki had cut the ball back to him.
Watford got the decisive second goal in the 52nd minute when Gray’s audacious back-heel finish from six yards out, which was going on target, clipped off left-back Jamal Lewis on the way through before nestling in the bottom-left corner.
Norwich were handed hope on the 66th minute when Christian Kabasele was shown a second yellow card for a silly foul on Josip Drmic, giving the visitors well over 20 minutes to survive with just 10 men on the field.
Tom Trybull and Lewis did call Ben Foster into action with long-range strikes but the Canaries were unable to find the back of the net, going down 2-0 at Carrow Road.
That result has seen Norwich drop to the foot of the table, while Watford have climbed to 18th in the standings, still three points from safety.
