Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber says the club won’t take any risks in January in a bid to preserve their Premier League status. The Canaries slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Watford on Friday night and sit bottom of the Premier League table with just seven points to show from their opening 12 games of the season.
The Carrow Road club are five points adrift of safety but Webber has ruled out any knee-jerk reactions in the winter window.
Webber refused to rule out bringing in some new faces in the January transfer window, but stressed any new arrivals will be with a view to the future as he isn’t willing to take any financial risks. “If we do spent money it will be on players who have a potential future value for us,” he told Sky Sports prior to the defeat to Watford. “That will be on players who aren’t going to lose their value if we are relegated, players who aren’t going to be on outrageous sums in the Championship if the worst was to happen. “It is not being defeatist. It is being realistic.”
Norwich have been linked with a few players in the build-up to the winter window and Olympiakos winger Giorgos Masouras is thought to be on their radar.
Manager Daniel Farke will be eager to bring a couple of fresh faces in as he bids to try and turn their season around but Webber has ruled out any notion of trying to spend their way out of trouble.
Webber feels Norwich can still pull clear of danger and he says it is crucial they stick to their guns and don’t make any rash moves in the transfer market, as the long-term future of the club has to be the priority.
