Nunez Equals 96-Year Record In Uruguay’s 5-0 Victory Over Bolivia

Darwin Nunez was yet again on the scoresheet as Uruguay demolished Bolivia in their second group stage match of the 2024 Copa America in the United States.

The Liverpool forward scored his second goal of the Copa America in the 21st minute, following his goal in a 3-1 victory over Panama in the opening group game.

Furthermore, Nunez has scored for Uruguay in seven straight games, which is rather remarkable. With his brilliant form, he has now equalled the record set by the notable Hector Scargone in the nation’s history. If the 25-year-old scores the Celeste’s last Group C match against the USA, he will break the record that was established almost 96 years ago.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team put in a strong display that confirmed their status as the silent favorites to win the Copa America. They swept past Bolivia, drawing attention with Nunez’s impressive performance.

Some national news outlets in Uruguay summed up Nunez’s performance in the latest Copa win.

El Observador gave the ex-Benfica marksman an 8/10 and commented: “Another who performed tremendously. He converted in his seventh consecutive game and even missed some more situations. However, he always loved her and always complicated her.”

La Diaria added: “Always a goal scorer. He is famous for putting it in. He missed one in the first minute, in the second he barely missed, the third was pin and green, to collect.

“Also, if he doesn’t make them he creates them, and if he doesn’t make them or create them, he runs after all the defenders so they don’t play in peace.”
