Arsenal have beaten Premier League rivals Manchester City as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to the signing of Kelechi Nwakali, according to the player himself.
The Gunners have already bolstered their midfield options with the capture of Switzerland international Granit Xhaka and manager Arsene Wenger is expected to be fairly busy in the transfer market this summer adding to his squad ahead of the new season.
It would appear that the Frenchman has opened his chequebook once again after the highly-rated Nigerian told All Nigeria Soccer, as reported by Sky Sports, that he has completed a move to the north London outfit after being forced to wait until turning 18 to finalise a deal due to FIFA regulations.
“I just came back from London, I have signed a five-year contract with Arsenal.”
Nwakali was apart Nigeria’s U17 side that triumphed at last year’s World Cup in Chile, scoring three goals in the process and impressing a number of scouts throughout the tournament.
Arsenal had been interested in the playmaker as well as teammate Samuel Chukwueze, but it seems the latter has decided against a move to the Emirates Stadium, with rumours linking him with a switch to FC Porto instead.
Should Nwakali’s claims prove to be true then he will be hoping to emulate compatriot Alex Iwobi after he made a breakthrough into the senior team last season.
