Onana Inform Teammates At Manchester United About Performance Against Liverpool

Andre Onana maintains that even after earning a crucial point away at Liverpool, Manchester United still needs to strive to win every game.

Prior to the trip to Anfield, United suffered more setbacks when Harry Maguire was hurt and Bruno Fernandes was suspended; nevertheless, they managed to hold on for a goalless draw. After consecutive losses to Bayern Munich and Bournemouth, the outcome put an end to United’s losing streak. It was also a step up from the visitors’ 7-0 humiliation in the match back in March.

According to Mirror, On Sunday, Liverpool dominated the majority of the big opportunities, but United also had chances to win all three points and occasionally threatened. Onana’s first clean sheet since the end of November helped United earn their first league draw of the season, but he has bigger goals in mind.

“We are Manchester United, we are one of the biggest clubs in the world and, against every opponent we play, we want to win,” the Cameroon international told MUTV. “We got one point, we fight together, we show a lot of character, a lot of personality but it’s not enough.

“We have to try to win the game. Unfortunately we didn’t. We have to put the standard higher. Doesn’t matter who we play, we have to go to win.”

With one point, United is now seventh in the league heading into their match against West Ham on Saturday. After defeating Wolves on Sunday, the London team, led by former United manager David Moyes, defeated Erik ten Hag’s team the previous season and are currently only one point behind.

“You know when you come to Anfield, it will be great going back home with the three points,” Onana added. “But like I said, if you have the clean sheet it’s good but the most important thing is to win the game.

“It was a tough game of course, but being a part of this big club, you must win. We had some, not too many, chances but we couldn’t score.

“So now, ahead of getting ready for the coming games, we have to look forward because it’s not enough. We have to do much more.”

Liverpool registered 34 shots on Sunday, more than any other Premier League team has achieved in a game this season. Perhaps for this reason, home boss Jurgen Klopp wasn’t too frustrated by the temporary damage to his team’s title hopes.
