Mesut Ozil has reflected on his transfer to Arsenal, insisting he knew that Arsene Wenger would develop him.
The playmaker sparked a dramatic shift in the Gunners’ transfer policy in the summer of 2013, and still stands as their record signing.
His initial impact in north London impressive, though he experienced several dips in form through his first two seasons at Arsenal – despite winning the FA Cup twice.
Since the beginning of last season, however, Ozil has been a consistently threatening presence for opposition defences, creating more chances (171) than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues.
He has also improved his own goalscoring form this term, netting four times in the Champions League and three in the Premier League.
Ozil is certainly pleased with his decision to join Wenger’s team, especially due to the faith placed in him by the French tactician.
The No.11 told Arsenal Player: “I knew that if I moved to Arsenal, I would develop myself further, especially under the boss.
“I’m on a good way, the team really supports me, the manager gives me his trust and you see that I enjoy myself on the pitch.
“I’m definitely more experienced. I’ve got plenty of successful years behind me, for which I’m very thankful.
“The older you get, the more active you are in the Premier League. You develop yourself and have experiences – that’s what I’m doing at the moment.”
Having been rested by Germany coach Joachim Low for the current international break, Ozil now has a short break until his next appearance, against Manchester United on 19th November.
