Striker Goncalo Paciencia felt his two-goal showing in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen is all just part of the job. The 25-year-old was on target as early as the fourth minute before slotting home a penalty 12 minutes later to give the hosts some daylight early on at Commerzbank-Arena on Friday night
It remained 2-0 until the 80th minute when 30-year-old former Netherlands hitman Bas Dost netted a third to ensure the points went to Adi Hutter’s side.
The win moved Die Adler up to seventh in the Bundesliga standings – one of six clubs sat on 14 points heading into the weekend’s games.
They include Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, with all three above Borussia Dortmund in the table.
Paciencia was the toast of the town after the match although the Portugal international felt he was just doing what he does best. “There’s always a lot of focus on the strikers, which is why I’m happy to have scored two goals again today,” he said. “It’s my job to help the team with goals.”
It was the former Porto man’s first brace in German football and his fifth strike of the campaign in what was an impressive all-round display by Frankfurt.
There is a great deal of competition for striking places in the side, with three in-form forwards all eager to play, but Paciencia was quick to play down any perceived rivalry, suggesting they are all of an equal standard. “It does not matter who I play with in attack. We all understand each other very well and always want to win,” he added.
