Palmer Admits Surprise To Stunning Chelsea Form After ‘Difficult Decision’ To Leave Man City

Chelsea midfielder, Cole Palmer has admitted he was surprised by his incredible form at the club and claimed he didn’t expect his ‘difficult decision’ to leave Manchester City to pay off quickly.

Palmer was one of the most impressive players in the Premier League in the just concluded season. His 22 league goals secured him a spot in England’s Euro squad.

However, Palmer made the decision to leave Manchester City last summer in order to sign for Chelsea in a £42.5 million deal and play more regular first team football.

Even though Pep Guardiola’s team had just won the Treble, the England forward was driven to push himself to advance in his career.

What Did Palmer Say About His Move To Chelsea?

According to The Mirror, Palmer said: “I wanted to play football and show everyone what I could do. I felt I was ready. But I didn’t think it would go this well!

“It’s my first season and I thought I’d go there, hopefully play – but it’s gone much better than I could have imagined. Definitely feel I was justified. I came to play football.

“I made a difficult decision to leave Man City and go to Chelsea but thankfully it’s paying off and hopefully it will continue to do so.”

Palmer’s form this season has forced him into the Three Lions squad after he helped England win the European Under-21 Championship last summer.

The 22-year-old was called up by Gareth Southgate as a thank you for his Chelsea performances. He already boasts two caps for his nation and believes that England can win the Euros this summer.

There’s a lot of talent in the squad, everyone can see that,” said Palmer. “I’m thrilled I can go there to represent England, we’ve got amazing players. Hopefully the team can gel together and try to win a tournament.”
