Paul Merson has said that he would like to see Southampton‘s Ronald Koeman manage Arsenal.
Koeman has done an impressive job at Southampton, with the club currently in seventh place in the Premier League, and has been touted in some quarters as a possible replacement for Arsene Wenger.
While it seems highly unlikely that the Frenchman will leave the club before the conclusion of next season, Merson wants Koeman to be brought in.
He told Sky Sports: “Ronald Koeman has done a brilliant job at Southampton, and I’d like to see him at Arsenal if I’m honest. He’s a top, top manager.”
Koeman’s Southampton side have created 378 chances in the Premier League this season, and face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane this weekend as they look to extend their winning run to three games.
The 53-year-old is extremely experienced in the managerial field, having coached in several different countries, and at Southampton he has worked hard to foster a sense of cohesion amongst the squad.
Wenger’s future as Arsenal manager has been the subject of some debate in recent weeks, and some fans protested against the Frenchman during last weekend’s victory over Norwich City.
Wenger has failed to deliver the league title for 12 years and his Arsenal sides have often been guilty of the same failings – overplaying and appearing vulnerable defensively – suggesting that it is time for a new manager to be brought in.
