Rodri could return to action before the end of the Premier League season, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said.
The Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder, who was previously ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage in September, resumed individual training this week.
While Rodri had earlier expressed optimism about playing again this season, Guardiola had been far more cautious, claiming it was not worth the risk even if possible.
Rodri’s improvement appears to have exceeded expectations, and he may appear again before the end of the domestic season, as well as play in the Club World Cup this summer.

Guardiola stated, “The fans must understand they are not the only ones who are delighted.
“But one step at a time; we don’t have to make silly decisions like returning weeks prematurely and (suffering) steps back. It’s good, but I don’t think he’s close to returning.
“But he is touching the ball, and he was in the locker room interacting with the guys. He feels more confident and happier.
“I could not expect before (him to return) but maybe before the end of the season – not even the (Club) World Cup – in the Premier League, maybe, it’s going to happen.”
On the negative for City, defender Nathan Ake appears to be poised for another layoff after being forced out at halftime in Saturday’s 3-1 FA Cup fifth round win over Plymouth.
The Dutchman would be joining fellow centre-backs John Stones and Manuel Akanji on the injured list, both of whom are expected to miss the majority of the season.
Guardiola stated, “We’ll do the test, although he problems with the foot, most likely with the bone.
