Pep Guardiola Is Brutally Honest About Manchester City’s Chances To Overcome Real Madrid This Week

Pep Guardiola suggested Manchester City has a “one percent” chance of defeating Real Madrid in their Champions League shootout.

City lost a 2-1 lead at the Etihad Stadium in the last minutes of their first leg play-off against the holders and 15-time winners, losing 3-2 in a dramatic late collapse. That has left Guardiola and his team with a massive hurdle at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, with the City manager acknowledging the magnitude of the task.

Omar Marmoush’s hat-trick helped City get back on track in the Premier League, and a late fourth from substitute James McAtee propelled them back into the top four. Despite City’s morale-boosting victory over top-four opponents Newcastle, Guardiola is concerned about their journey to the Spanish capital to face Carlo Ancelotti’s tough side.

“Of course the victory helps us, but the margin to win at the Bernabeu, in that position, everybody knows that if you ask before the game, the percentage to go through, I don’t know, when we arrive, is one per cent,” according to Guardiola. “It will be little, but as long as you give us a chance, we will try. So we’re going there, as we always do.

“We finished 22nd in the Champions League table, but if we had played as well as we did tonight, we would have finished higher.

“But we have been extremely terrible in terms of performance and outcomes this season, and we played exceptionally well tonight. Reported By Mirror.

“It won’t affect the opinion or reality of where the team is right now, and we’re still not doing well on a daily basis. Of course, it’s preferable to fly to Madrid with this result than with a loss.

“So the chance is little because the outcome was not favorable. It would be different with five minutes to go if it was 2-1, but losing 3-2 reduces the chances.
