The Three Lions were unable to break down their opponents in their final group stage game, but they still won the group. England has only scored twice in three games, as its ineffective offense continues to fall short despite the talent at their disposal.
Foden is one of those who has struggled to reach the projected heights, but he and Rice blew up at Trippier after 30 minutes in Cologne. The Manchester City star passed the ball to the temporary left-back, who was instructed to play inside to Rice.
Instead, he attempted to thread a difficult pass to Bukayo Saka, but it was intercepted by the Slovenian defence and ruled out of play. Foden and Rice were then seen arguing with the Newcastle defender after his decision effectively ended England’s onslaught.
Many fans saw the moment, which appears to showcase the English discontent. Trippier apologised, but supporters continued to speculate about the climate in camp. On social media, someone wrote, “FodenPhil Foden is going crazy at Trippier there.” Another added: “The mood is not good when Foden throws his hands at Trippier like that. “‘Don’t blame me, everyone’ vibes.”
Trippier has replaced Luke Shaw, who arrived injured but was nonetheless included in the squad. He appears to be out for the entire Euros, leaving the Newcastle player to play there in his absence, however Bukayo Saka has been linked with a return to left-back.
