Pique reveals Barca efforts in Neymar deal

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed the lengths the players were willing to go to help Neymar return to the club over the summer. The Blaugrana looked like they were going to pull off the move of the summer to bring Neymar back from Paris Saint-Germain after the Brazilian failed to settle in the French capital.
At one stage it looked like the former Santos star was set to return to the Nou Camp but PSG managed to keep hold of their prized asset, who has made a strong start to the Ligue 1 campaign after returning from injury.
Pique has now revealed that the Barca players were going to accept delays in payment of their wages if it meant the Spanish giants could have lured Neymar back to the club. “We were ready to adjust our contracts,” he told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser. “We weren’t going to contribute money, but we were going to make things easier by allowing some payments to be made in the second or third year instead of the first.”
With young midfielder Frenkie de Jong joining from Ajax and Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, Barca spent more than £200m over the summer but in the end they could not get a deal over the line for Neymar.
The reigning La Liga champions have since ruled out a move for the talented South American in January but could return with a new offer at the end of the current campaign – although the Parisians’ stance will be key to any possible transfer.
