Mauricio Pochettino has tipped young star Dele Alli as a future Tottenham Hotspur captain.
Alli has come on leaps and bounds since joining Tottenham in 2015, with the England international netting 11 league goals this season.
The 20-year-old’s form has prompted talk that Real Madrid could be eyeing up a swoop for him, but it appears as though Alli is thriving under Pochettino’s stewardship.
Alli’s fight and passion on the pitch is a feature of his game which Tottenham fans have taken a liking to, and Pochettino admits it is that sort of leadership that could make the midfielder a club captain one day.
“For me, every player has the capacity to be a leader,” Pochettino said, as reported by the Mirror. “We have Hugo Lloris, who is the captain of France [as skipper], and Dele Alli has the personality and the character to become leader in a few years.
“Every player in my squad has leadership qualities – they just need time to develop them.”
The club’s current captain Hugo Lloris is in no rush to be giving up his armband anytime soon, whilst Alli also has Toby Alderweireld ahead of him in the pecking order.
Meanwhile, Tottenham take on an out of sorts Liverpool side at Anfield on Saturday, as they look to keep the pressure on Chelsea.
