Pochettino Confirms Lavia Injury Setback After 30-minute Debut Against Palace

Chelsea midfielder, Romeo Lavia has reportedly suffered an injury setback in his 30-minute cameo debut against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The long-awaited debut of the £58 million summer acquisition came on Wednesday night as the Blues battled to a 2-1 victory. Despite Lavia’s contribution to the win, manager Mauricio Pochettino voiced some concern following the match that the Belgian might have sustained an injury.

According to DiMarzio, as reported by Goal, the midfielder is suspected to have sustained a thigh injury.

Pochettino said: “I’m a little bit worried about Romeo Lavia,” Pochettino told reporters after the match. “He finished with some issues, but I hope it’s not a big issue”.

In a season blighted by injuries, Lavia’s continued absence would be frustrating for the player and a further setback for Chelsea.

Both the midfielder’s debut and that of fellow summer addition Christopher Nkunku were encouraging developments following the loss of captain Reece James for a number of months.

Pochettino will be hoping for some good news when the club’s medical staff examines Lavia’s thigh.

The Blues have a short turnaround in the usual hectic festive schedule when they travel to Luton Town on Saturday.

The Hatters are a formidable opponent with doggedness and resilience, partly due to the resurgence of former Chelsea star, Ross Barkley.
