Pochettino Declines To Rule Out Possibility Of Tottenham Return

Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly refused to rule out the possibility of making a return back to Tottenham Hotspur after he was acrimoniously sacked by the club in 2019.

Pochettino will return to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as Chelsea boss ahead of a London derby against his former club on Monday night.

During his tenure at Spurs, the Argentine coach guided the team to four straight top-four places and the Champions League final. However, after leaving the side, the 51-year-old declared that he would like to return “before he dies” to try and win a trophy for the north London club.

According to The Independent, Pochettino emphasized his dedication to Chelsea before his “special” return on Monday night. But he also stated that he would not completely rule out a future return to the Tottenham sideline.

“Hopefully, I can stay here [at Chelsea] until I die!” Pochettino replied. “20 or 25 years, but you never know in football. It [Tottenham] is a club, for sure if I’m not working, maybe if they want me one day, why not?

“Who knows? It’s a club like Southampton or Espanyol or Newell’s Old Boys. It’s like life, you never know what is going to happen tomorrow.

“We need to enjoy today and I think now at 51, I am thinking more about that, enjoy today and not look too much into the future, in the long term. But, why not?”

Pochettino was fired five months after Tottenham reached the 2019 Champions League final. He also led the team to a second-place Premier League finish in the 2016/2017 season. Despite this, Pochettino was unable to end Tottenham’s lengthy trophy drought.
