Juventus star Paul Pogba has revealed that Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs acted as his mentors during his time at Manchester United.
The Frenchman signed for the Red Devils as a youngster from Le Havre seven years ago and was immediately earmarked as one for the future.
However, he wasn’t able to force his way into the senior team due to the number of midfield options ahead of him at the time.
He eventually left the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ in the summer of 2012 on a free transfer and joined the Serie A giants in search of regular first-team football, although his time in Manchester was not all bad as revealed in an interview with ESPN Sport.
“With them you train to the end, up to perfection, because Paul Scholes — despite his age — was still there at the end of practice, hitting long passes, shots.
“He didn’t miss one. When you’re there, you have to adapt fast. I like that — always challenges.”
Since leaving Old Trafford, the 24-year-old has developed into one of the finest midfielders across Europe and he will be keen to showcase his ability for France at the European Championships that get underway on home soil this evening.
Pogba enjoyed a brilliant season at club level this year as he scored eight goals in 35 league appearance, in the process leading the Old Lady to a fifth successive Serie A title and is likely to play a prominent role for Les Bleus this summer.
