Juventus star Paul Pogba has said that he hopes to reach, and then surpass, the all-round quality of Chelsea great Frank Lampard.
The 23-year-old is regarded as one of Europe’s finest midfielders and when his age is taken into account, it is rather frightening just how good the France international could become.
Pogba left Old Trafford for Turin in 2012 after struggling for game time under Sir Alex Ferguson and the Old Lady’s No.10 has excelled since moving to Italy.
Pogba has proven he has an array of tools in his locker, registering 11 assists, scoring eight goals and creating a hefty 46 chances in Serie A this season.
It is that sort of all-round quality which he feels is what Lampard had and Pogba is keen to match the former Chelsea icon’s quality, while perhaps bettering it as he gets older.
“I’d like to surpass [Frank] Lampard,” Pogba told La Repubblica. “I want to be the midfielder who can do everything, and at the highest levels. Shooting, dribbling, scoring, defending. I want to be like Lampard, but better.”
Pogba also offered a view on his future – the midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to some of Europe’s biggest sides – but insisted he leaves the speculation and paperwork to others.
“As for my future, I want to beat Carpi, then I want the Coppa Italia, and then Euro 2016 in France,” Pogba added.
“After that, I have a contract with Juventus, I can’t just get up one morning and take a plane to England. Ask the people who work in the transfer department.”
Pogba has won the Serie A title in every single season he has been with the Bianconeri and there are suggestions he may look to try something different ahead of next season.
However, it remains to be seen who would be able to afford Pogba, with rumours suggesting it will take something special from any club to lure him away from the Juventus Stadium.
